Despite the fact that the IOC has awarded LA the bid to host the 2028 Summer Olympics, the fight to keep the Games out of LA is only just beginning. The notion that the Olympics are coming to our city no matter what isn’t necessarily true, as many opportunities still exist to intervene and stop them entirely.
Members of the NOlympics LA coalition (https://www.nolympicsla.com), which started last spring and now consists of nearly 30 leftist organizations, will share their analysis of how the Olympics are always harmful to their host cities. Even so-called "successful Olympics" benefit only a handful of developers, politicians, and businesses while making conditions worse for the many who are already struggling and vulnerable.
Panelists will then go on to talk about the coalition's work so far and the goals and plans for the opposition movement over the next 11 years, including fighting to improve the already-existing issues that the Olympics would only exacerbate. There will be time for a Q&A after the presentation.
